Poem written for the World Kindness Day 2024.
Author: Emma Oogur
I took the fight against the treacherous knives
With all my might before the vicious lies
All for naught as midnight fell
And I thought, down in my cell
I am now spent and dried
No tear left yet to be cried
What good had I to be kind?
Here I am in a bind...
Thus, I vowed
‘I draw the line
I’ll be blind
To plight not mine
Until I meet my demise’
But to my aid
A child came
With a sure aim
His smile proclaimed:
‘It was not in vain
That you dared to care’
“Light the Flame!
Reclaim your name
You are meant to be Humane
Rise again; take heed to what I say:
At the end of this tale, you overcame!”
The world may teach me to be cruel
But each plea shall be futile
I’ll cast aside my pride
I’ll incline myself to be kind
I’ll rise against Despairs’ wind
And find life!
Perhaps in my steps,
The world shall follow
For a chance
Of a whole tomorrow
Where kindness shall grow
We are assigned to be kind.
